In This Town

about

In This Town was originally written for Peter Guzda's MsC the Movie in 2006. The live-acoustic version of the song appears at the end of the movie during the final montage. The song was intended to be a summary of the mood of the film during this period for many disenfranchised youth living in the City of Welland that were suffering from boredom due to a lack of productive activities to pursue. As a result of the popularity of the movie in and around Southern Ontario, In This Town was adopted by many young people living in small towns as a rally cry for social change in hopes to bring about the end of ignoring the needs of the youth by many municipal governments. Some positive moves seen as a result of both MsC The Movie's popularity and the song itself were the creation of the Welland Band Compilation CD entitled""A Tale of One City" and the "Welland Documentary: A Tale of Park Weekends." Both projects were worked on by Peter Guzda and Ryan Guay in conjunction with the Corporation of the City of Welland. These, along with other creative artifacts produced, would later be used to help the City of Welland apply for funding that lead to the improvements of youth-friendly spaces in and around the region.

lyrics

Verse 1
I hate everything in this town. But I'd rather. sit here and play my guitar than fall overboard and drown.
Just like everyone living here, we all, smoke lots of dope and drink lots of beer. That's how we persevere in this town.

Chorus 1
I will find my own way to a better place
So I can escape the pitfalls of living in this disgrace
'cause there's a lack of
There's a lack of of
There's a lack of
There's a lack of everything

Verse 2
Falling down face first towards the ground
Just like everyone who's living in this drunken-ass town
But worrying's like a rocking chair
It doesn't get you anywhere so I'll just spark this joint and forget to car about living in this town.

Chorus 2
I will find my own way to a better place
So I can escape the pitfalls of living in this disgrace
'cause there's a lack of
There's a lack of of
There's a lack of
There's a lack of everything

Verse 3
I hate everything in this town, but the truth is that I wouldn't change a think 'cause Welland's made me proud
I'm living in a shit hole here but I'm with my friend's drinking lots of beer and if I had to leave them, I just might have to shed a tear for this town.

Chorus 3
I don't need to fly away to a nicer space
The rose is my home despite the fact it can be one ugly place
'cause there's a lack of
There's a lack of of
There's a lack of
There's a lack of everything

But I wouldn't change a thing
